How Prophytes Works
The verified D9 network, explained.
Prophytes is the private network for verified members of the Divine Nine. This guide walks you through every part of the platform, what it does for you, and the next step to take inside each feature. Jump to a section or read top to bottom.
Your Profile
Your profile is your verified identity inside the D9 network. Other verified members see your name, photo, organization, your initiated and current chapters, school, crossing season and year, location, employment, social links, and your tier. Email, phone, address, and line name stay private to you.
Prophyte membership profiles are enhanced with additional features. Paid members get a Prophyte tier chip, expanded link sections, and surface in higher-priority places across the network.
Next step
- Add a photo and a short bio so members recognize you.
- Link your Instagram, LinkedIn, or services so the network can find you off-platform.
- Decide what to share. Anything optional is yours to leave off.
Verification and Intake
Members are verified by their chapter members. When you sign up, you start in Intake, a holding state shown by an hourglass on your profile and an Intake pill on every chat message. A verified member of your chapter confirms you, and you become a Verified Member with full access.
The platform may surface your profile to the chapter so members can either vouch for you or report you. Vouching is the chapter saying yes. Reporting opens an investigation if something is off. You see your progress on your Intake chip: vouches received out of vouches required.
Four ways to get in
- Invited. Someone shared an invite link with you. You verify instantly.
- .edu match. Your school email matches your chapter's university. You verify instantly and get one year of paid access.
- First member. No one has joined your chapter on Prophytes yet. A platform admin reviews your claim.
- Organic. A chapter member taps your card and vouches. Default threshold is one vouch. Usually clears within 24 hours.
Until you verify, you can still read the Yard, browse most surfaces, and learn the room. Posting in the Yard waits until you complete your intro.
Your Public Link
Every verified member has a permanent Prophytes Number. Your shareable profile lives at /p/<your-number>. Share that link anywhere off-platform.
The public link is off by default. Turn it on from Settings to expose your name, photo, organization, chapters, crossing year, and social links. Employment, email, phone, and line name never appear on the public page. Search engine indexing is a separate toggle. Turn the public link off again and the URL returns 404 with no disclosure.
Manage your public linkThe Yard
The Yard is the digital campus for all schools on one yard. Every Divine Nine organization, every chapter, every school in one room. Members post updates, ask for introductions, share wins, and trade context across orgs that never had a shared space before.
You can read everything on day one. To post, drop your intro: upload a selfie, confirm your Greek tag, optionally add Instagram or LinkedIn, and leave a short note. After you introduce, you can post, reply, react, mention, and attach images. Members who have not been vouched by a chapter member yet display as Intake on every message.
Share meaningful messages that support the topic of the week. The Yard rewards substance. Long-form thinking, real updates, useful introductions, and the kind of post your line would actually read.
What you can do
- Post, reply, and mention up to ten members per message.
- React with the D9 emoji set, including the dap.
- Attach up to four images. Link previews unfurl automatically.
- Block or report any message. Reports flow to the moderation queue.
Members Directory
Every verified member is searchable across organization, school, chapter, and location. The directory is gated to Verified Members and Prophytes. Every name you see has been confirmed by a chapter member, which is the platform's trust anchor.
Next step
- Search by name or by exact Prophytes Number.
- Filter by org, by school, by chapter, by city or state.
- Tap a profile to open it. Tap Chat to start a conversation.
Chat
One-to-one and group conversations live at /chat. Every chat surface across the platform uses the same message UI, so the gestures you learn here work in the Yard and in event chat too.
What you can do
- Send messages up to 2000 characters, with image attachments and GIPHY search.
- Double-tap a message for a quick react. Long-press for the full menu including report and delete-own.
- Swipe right or tap the reply icon to quote a specific message.
- Mention members with @, up to ten per message.
- Block a member to hide their messages from you and remove them from your mention candidates.
Members in Intake show an amber Intake pill on each message so you always know the verification state of who you are talking to.
My Chapter
Your chapter page is the private hub for your chapter on the platform. Four tabs: Overview, Members, Events, and Dues. Members see who has joined, what is happening this week, upcoming events, and chapter activity. Officers see everything members see plus the controls to run the chapter.
What members see
- The Overview activity feed: new joins, events, recent chapter movement.
- The Members roster with filter chips for President, Officer, Member, Financial, and Online.
- The chapter event calendar and the dues view.
- A "Fin" badge on members who are current on dues.
For Chapter Officers
The chapter page is the single most powerful tool on the platform for an officer line. It collapses what used to take five group chats, a spreadsheet, and a thread of receipts into one screen.
Roles and how they work
- President. The only role that can appoint officers and hand off the presidency. Appointing a new president automatically demotes the sitting president to member. One president per chapter.
- Officer. Verified members elevated by the president. Officers can approve pending members, manage the dues system, and run chapter communications. Officers cannot promote each other.
- Member. Every verified member of the chapter who is not an officer or the president.
The pending-members queue
Officers see every chapter member waiting for verification in one queue, sorted by how long they have been waiting. One tap approves a candidate, which counts as a vouch and verifies them. Severity buckets surface anyone waiting longer than a week.
Action plan to fully utilize the chapter page
- Claim the chapter page and confirm the officer slate so members know who is leading.
- Set up dues so chapter finance runs on autopilot through Stripe. Members get a clean receipt. Officers stop chasing.
- Clear the pending-members queue weekly so nobody sits in Intake longer than they have to.
- Post the year of programming on the events tab so members can plan around it.
- Build a first-30-days welcome flow for new initiates, starting with a chapter introduction in the Yard.
- Celebrate wins on the Yard so the broader D9 sees what your chapter is doing.
Events
Create events for your chapter, your org, or the public. Three visibility modes: Chapter Only, Organization-Wide, and Public. Every RSVP automatically joins a live event chat that opens when the event publishes and closes a couple of days after it ends.
What members can do
- RSVP with Going or Maybe. Paid events confirm with Stripe.
- Use the event chat to coordinate before, during, and after. SMS and push alerts go to the list when the time matters.
- Refund policies are set up front. Members see the policy before they pay.
Public events have a shareable link at /e/<slug>. Non-members can RSVP as guests through that link without creating a full account.
QR Connect
Every verified member has a permanent, rotatable QR code for in-person identity exchange. At a chapter event, a conference, or a random run-in at the airport, pull up your QR. Anyone scanning sees a clean preview of your name, photo, org, chapter, and school. Tap Start Chat and you are in a conversation instantly.
Rotate your code at any time. The old QR returns 404 immediately. Members in Intake can scan but cannot generate a QR until they verify.
For Students (.edu)
If you signed up with an .edu email that matches your chapter's university, you verify instantly and get one year of paid Prophyte access on the house. Same posting and chat permissions as a Prophyte. No membership fee while you are in school.
With access comes responsibility. The members you are talking to in the Yard, in chat, on chapter pages: they are the line that came before you and the line that comes after. Your chapter alumni are watching, and they are here to help.
How to engage with members and past members
- Post regularly on the Yard so the network learns your name.
- Reach out to alumni in your org or in your industry. Most will respond, especially to someone who introduces themselves cleanly.
- RSVP to chapter events and show up. The bond is built in person.
- Help new initiates learn the platform. Pay the welcome forward.
Membership Tiers
The platform has three tiers for D9 members and one separate mode for non-members.
- Member. You signed up but have not been vouched yet. You can read most surfaces, RSVP to public events, and finish onboarding.
- Verified Member. Vouched by a chapter member or approved through your alumni claim. Unlocks the Yard intro, full members directory, chat, your chapter page, event creation, and the rest of the network.
- Prophyte. A Verified Member with an active subscription. Adds the Prophyte tier chip, enhanced profile features, the full hiring board, and 20 percent of your membership goes directly to your chapter's account balance.
- Guest. A lightweight account created when someone RSVPs to a public event. Guests see events and their own RSVPs and nothing more.
Reports and Investigations
Trust is the product. The platform takes reports seriously. Any verified chapter member can report a profile or a message. Most reports require two confirmations before action is taken. High-severity reports like impersonation or not-a-member take effect on the first report so the network stays clean.
If your profile is reported it will be placed under investigation. You lose chapter access while a platform admin reviews. The admin either clears the report and restores you, or confirms it and removes you. You get one notification when your access state changes. If you have questions, email support@prophytes.com.
Maintaining the Bond
Brotherhood and sisterhood do not maintain themselves. The platform is the tool. The work is yours.
- Reach out to your line.
- Check on members who have gone quiet on the Yard.
- Fund an undergraduate chapter when you can.
- Show up to events. The bond is built in person.
- Welcome new members and help them learn the room.
The verified network only works if verified members actually use it. That part is on us, together.
